About Pam

Ottawa-based painter Pam Bixel creates vibrant abstract paintings in acrylics and oils, using large brushes and palette knives. Her work focuses on designs that combine layers of colour and offer a sense of space with bold, energetic lines suggesting movement and texture. Inspired by colours and compositions she finds in nature, she explores themes of roots, connection and disconnection.

Following a lifelong dream, she earned her Diploma of Fine Arts at OSA after a career in advertising and graphic design. This influence can be seen in her eye-catching compositions and strong contrasts. She also studied at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, ON and the Haliburton School of Art in Haliburton, ON.

She has participated in group shows at the Lee Matasi Gallery and Gallery 200 in Ottawa. She was awarded the Corrie Gibson Memorial Study Scholarship in 2020 and the Blair Sharpe Memorial Painting Scholarship in 2022. Her solo exhibition at the OSA Lee Matasi Gallery will be held from October 5 to 19, 2022.
